Will Tide's McElroy burn his old high school coach the way he 'torched' a former Southlake Carroll assistant?

Associated Press

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --

The current head coach at Southlake Carroll High School in suburban Dallas already has experienced what the former Southlake Carroll coach is likely to experience Saturday.

Try to stop Greg McElroy? Been there, didn't do that.

At 11:21 a.m. Saturday, Alabama and its junior quarterback will face North Texas, which is coached by Todd Dodge. He was the head coach and McElroy was the starting quarterback who led Southlake Carroll to an undefeated season and the 2005 Texas Class 5A championship.

Hal Wasson is Southlake Carroll's head coach now. He was an assistant coach at Southlake Carroll when McElroy was a freshman and sophomore. When McElroy was a senior, Wasson was the head coach at Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas. Wasson would like to forget his team's game against the Dragons.

McElroy's team won 55-24.

Todd Dodge came to North Texas in 2007 after a five-year stretch at Southlake Carroll High School during which he compiled a 77-1 record and won four state titles. The only loss was by one point in the 2003 championship game. (North Texas photo)
